Volunteers, Donors Provide Lunch for Kids
Caroline Tinsley Porter and Ruth Verette prepare tacos for Kids Lunch Club which wrapped up last week. They were two of a group of volunteers from Pedernales Electric Coop. that signed up to serve a free lunch of soft tacos, chicken taquitos, refried beans, chips and queso, fruit and ice cream to local kids. “We so look forward to volunteering again next year!” said Caroline Tinsley Porter of PEC.

The Kids’ Lunch Club, which provides hot, nutritious lunches for children three days a week through June and July, has prepared its last meals for the year, and wraps up the summer with a pool party Friday night for kids and cooks and their families. The club started years ago as a means of maintaining nutrition among low-income children during the summers, when school — and school lunches — are out.
