The USPS is a federal level service provided to deliver mail. Even though USPS is not responsible for providing the containers for your mail, they have boxes available for rent in the Horseshoe Bay facility.
The City and POAs are not responsible for mail services. Mail service is federally managed and controlled. For questions on these matters, contact the Post Office Supervisor.
As Horseshoe Bay has grown, new developers in Horseshoe Bay have assumed the responsibility of installing community-based mailboxes (CBU)/kiosks in their developments. Smaller developments such as Applehead and others have been able to install a single box for each lot. But, now that there is no full area developer with responsibility in Horseshoe Bay Proper, Horseshoe Bay South, or Horseshoe Bay West, the number of community-based units in these areas is limited to existing boxes. New residents in these areas will need to work with the Post Office to acquire mail service via daily pick up or P.O. Box rental. Future developments in the City are responsible for providing CBUs for each property in their development.
Some of the options available for receipt of mail for those new to the City of Horseshoe Bay include:
• Pick up your mail daily at the Post Office. You must go to the service window, show your ID, and collect your mail. Because USPS cannot hold mail for anyone who does not have an actual mailbox, any mail not picked up will be returned to sender and marked “No Mail Receptacle”.
• Rent a Post Office box. Post Office boxes are located at the HSB Post Office annex. Costs vary based on the size of the box. These can be rented on a semi-annual or annual basis. In the event there is too much mail for your box or if you receive a package too big for your box, a yellow card is placed in your box to notify you of the situation. You then must go to the service window, show the yellow card, show your ID, and collect your mail.
• You may request a key from the Post Office for one of the Community Based Units/CBUs (kiosks) in your community. The Post Office manages keys, cost collection, and box assignments. If you live in HSB Proper/West, it is not likely you will receive a CBU box. All boxes are rented at this time. There are no plans currently for additional CBU/Kiosk boxes in these areas.
Note:
For those who rent a box at the HSB facility (i.e., have a P.O. Box delivery number), there is a specific challenge in receiving deliveries from UPS and FEDEX:
They cannot deliver to your PO Box address. You will need to have the delivery address as the Post Office’s physical address with your PO Box. For example: 9740 W FM 2147 Unit/POB 1234, Horseshoe Bay, Tx 78657. Upon receipt, the Post Office will use the unit # to place the package in your PO Box or provide a yellow card to signal pick up.
(For those with a CBU/kiosk box, use your physical home address for shipments.)
The Post Office staff are part of our business community attempting to serve you to the best of their ability within the guidelines imposed by the federal authority. Let them know if you have challenges.
