For two consecutive afternoons this spring, fifteen Horseshoe Bay residents will experience an unnaturally hot heat wave. Only graduates of the City’s Dottie Anderson Citizens’ Academy will have the opportunity to see what it is like to be a firefighter. The participants in the Citizens’ Fire Academy (CFA) will see what it is like to put on firefighter gear, breathe from the firefighters’ breathing apparatus, cut apart cars using rescue tools (aka “Jaws of Life”), use fire hoses, and crawl through a simulated (fake smoke/heat) building fire at the Horseshoe Bay Fire Department training tower.
This exciting class will give residents a first-hand look at Fire Department operations, including the opportunity to ride on a Fire Trucks.
The academy will take place over two days on March 9th and 10th from 1:00P.M.-3:30P.M. The class will be limited to 15 due primarily to the hands-on nature. If you are a graduate of the City’s Citizens’ Academy and interested in learning more about your local Fire Department, please email [email protected] to be contacted.
