Exploring Llano County

With the summer heating up and social distancing keeping us home, it’s natural that we want to find ways to get out, cool down, and still be safe.

With 21 miles of water, Lake LBJ is a great option!

Located in Llano and Burnet County, the almost 6,300 acres of lake area make enjoying the great outdoors, distantly, a reality.

Boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing and more are all great ways to spend the dog days of summer.

Running from Kingsland to Horseshoe Bay, Lake LBJ follows the Colorado River and offers a great body of water to enjoy.

Lake LBJ is a near-constant level lake, so there is never a bad time to visit.

If you follow the lake into the waters of the Colorado River, you will get to enjoy cooler waters. Take the Llano River arm, and you’ll have shallower water, making it great for tubing with a boat.

Fishing is great no matter where you drop a line, with an abundance of catfish, crappie, white bass, and largemouth bass.

Sunrise Beach offers a great sandbar where groups can gather to play volleyball, swim, or just float around and hang out with the family.

There are plenty of places to stay, including Longhorn Resort, Valentine Lakeside Resort, Rio Vista Resort, Llanorado Lodge, River Oaks Lodge, and Black Rock Park, all situated near Lake LBJ. Other lodging near Lake LBJ includes Antler Inn, Willow Point Resort Lake Home, Llano River Retreat, Long Mountain, The O’Farrell Lake House, and River Escape. You can find more information about each of these on texashillcountrygetaways.com.
