The Wimberley Gospel Music Festival began at Blue Hole on the banks of Cypress Creek in 1978 by Ronald and Carol Spangenberg and a few friends. Over the years it continued to grow and in 1994, the festival moved from Blue Hole to various locations over the years.
In 2006 it was moved to Cowboys for Jesus Church in Fischer. When Jan and Jerry Hoyt could no longer produce the festival, it was decided to move it back to Wimberley. Jan passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer last year and this years festival will be dedicated to her.
The festival has not been held the last two years and the Auxiliary of the Wimberley VFW Post #6441 is hosting the festival this year on Saturday, October 19.
The majority of the performers have played the festival in the past and were happy to return and know it will be continued. Some of the performers are local and others are coming from across the state. The lineup includes southern, western, traditional and blue grass gospel music. Come listen to: Cowboys for Jesus, Jackie Cox, Blue Creek Bluegrass, Darrell Ayres & Tom Christopher, Hearts of Grace, Tim Marshall, Dee Vickery, The Song of Glory, Clifton Jansky and Jim Henderson.
Creekside BBQ will be offering lunch and dinner throughout the day.
Admission to the festival is free, although there is a $5 per vehicle parking fee.
