This year marks the 114th Kendall County Fair and Rodeo in Boerne, Texas! We thank the community for their support and dedication for over 100 years! Our journey started in 1905 when a few fellow members of the town decided to organize a community gathering. This event helped to bond the community together by sharing ideas, crops, farming and livestock tips, sewing creations, baked goods, fun and games and so much more! 114 years later, this community tradition is still at the forefront of everything we do!
The Kendall County Fair Association is a 501c-3 non-profit organization. We are funded 100% by our events, donations, facility rentals, and community support. We do not receive tax dollars from the city, county or state to help us keep this tradition alive for you! We hold several events during the year which also help fund our scholarship programs and property upkeep as well.
Let’s talk about this year’s events! We start out this year on Thursday, August 29th with our 70th annual Queen’s Court Scholarship Pageant!! Our first queen 70 years ago was Bonnie Lee Kemp in 1949 who won her crown based on how many pennies were put into a jar at one of the community businesses to vote for her. 60 years ago, we crowned Joan Bohnert. 50 years ago, we crowned Mary Dean Howard. This year we will crown our 70th Queen!! We don’t use pennies anymore, but each year the new prospective young ladies provide references, are interviewed privately and on stage during the event, among other things. It’s an exciting night for everyone who attends and is free to the public. What a great way to get the Fair started!
In 2017 we adopted KC Cowboy as our mascot. He brings BIG smiles to both young and old. Over the last two years we continue to expand this program and his role with the organizations. In 2019, we are holding auditions for a newly elected KC Cowboy. The elected boy or girl will receive a scholarship and many other awards with their new position.
This year will be KC’s 2nd year hosting the KC Kids Roundup! He has expanded his smile search and will host this special event on Friday morning before we open the fair to the public. KC and the KCFA directors will open the gates to host an exclusive group of special needs children of Kendall County. These children will experience everything from a special carnival and animal interactions to Homestead Heritage Exhibit Hall tours, a special showing of this year’s Lumberjack Show, and a small rodeo type experience tailored just for them. These children will end their day under our pavilion with fun, games, country music and a cowboy lunch. We have also added a KCs Kids Scholarship to help special-needs children with secondary education or college. We are very excited to be able to bring this to the community!
Friday, August 30th at 5pm, we officially open the gates and kick off the 114th Kendall County Fair & Rodeo! On Friday, we begin with opening the Exhibit Hall to the public to view and share all the handmade items, art, canning, baking, and much more, just like when our community event started in 1905! The Mercantile in the New Hall will be open with TONS of fabulous vendors selling amazing merchandise! At 6:30pm the Lumberjack Show starts behind the Pavilion. At 7pm, Rebel Roxie is our first entertainer on stage followed by The KLOCKS at 10pm! The Lester Meyer Rodeo starts with the pre-show Mutton Busting at 7:30pm followed by the official rodeo start at 8pm.
Saturday morning, August 31st, in downtown Boerne, the Fair parade begins at 10am! It runs on Main street from the fire station down to River Road. If you haven’t been to one of our fair parades, you should come out and see the numerous spectacular floats that participate.
While the parade is starting in downtown, back at the fairgrounds, the annual Livestock Lamb & Goat show kicks off under the blue livestock barn at 10am as well! These young men and women put so much hard work into raising their animals all year long. Come see them at their finest! The Exhibit Hall, Carnival, Mercantile in the New Hall with vendors and all outdoor vendors also open at 10am! At 1:15pm we will be hosting a Karaoke contest! You won’t want to miss this!
On Saturday and Sunday, after lunch we’ve got some great afternoon entertainment lined up. The Mercantile (New Hall) and the Pavilion will have entertainers on both stages such as magicians, variety of music and family entertainment all afternoon. The exhibit hall is having its annual egg tossing contest and let’s not forget the amazing Apple Pie Contest on Sunday! There are 3 showings each day for the Lumberjack show, the first starting at 1:30pm. We are also having lawnmower races in the afternoon’s Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s evening headliner’s start at 10pm under the Pavilion with Will Carter, followed by Cody Wayne at 11:45pm. The Lester Meyer Rodeo starts with the pre-show Mutton Busting at 7:30pm followed by the official rodeo start at 8pm.
Sunday, September 1st, the Livestock show starts at 10am with the Poultry, Heifer and Steer show. Afternoon entertainment, Exhibit hall, carnival and vendors are all open by noon.
