Known perhaps best as the boyhood home of Lyndon Baines Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, Johnson City is also home to numerous wineries, aritists, restaurants and popular visitor destinations.

The county seat of Blanco County, Johnson City is located at the junction of US Hwys 281 and 290; the town motto is “The crossroads of the Texas Hill Country.”

The population has remained relatively steady over the last decade, however, each weekend, the community swells as people come to walk the square and admire the art that has take up residence downtown.

There are eight art galleries located on the square: A Smith Gallery, Echo, Eyfells & Eyfells, JL Haynes Gallery, Kirchman Gallery, Studio Massaro, Texas Art House, and Texcetera. Local artists showcase their eye-catching art, welcoming the art curious and art lovers alike to peruse their galleries.

Johnson City’s rich history can be seen at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, Lyndon B. Johnson Boyhood Home, and the Texas White House; both highlight the life and times of the former President.

The Science Mill is an exciting, interactive destination for all ages, featuring technology-based exhibits, games, and programs.

The Exotic Resort Zoo and Pedernales Falls State Park offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Texas Hill Country up close and personal.

Texas Hill Country Wines are all the rage these days, and some of the best wineries and vineyards in the area are located in Johnson City. Texas Hills Vineyards, Hahne Estates Winery, Texas Hill Country Wineries, 290 Vinery, Ron Yates and Vinovium, and Lewis Wines are just a few to visit.

Shops boasting unique items abound, including Vintage 205, The Sculpture Ranch and Galleries, Whittington’s Jerky and General Store, Pieces of the Past, Black Spur Emporium, Junque Dynasty, Rustik by Choice, Pocket Change, Rock Shop, Stidham Outfitters & Custom Leather and more.

To satisfy your hunger, Johnson City has a number of locally operated restaurants to satisfy any craving. Bryans on 290, Dairy Queen, Subway, East Main Grill, Fat Boy Burgers, Home Town Donuts, Lady Bird Lane Cafe, Pecan Street Brewing, Ronnies BBQ, El Agave and El Charro...all offer great eats!
