The Adult Soapbox Derby Returns to the Streets of Historic Downtown Marble Falls Texas.

 The 9th Annual Marble Falls Soapbox Classic will take place June 15-17, 2018.  The historic downtown district of Marble Falls will be filled with racing, live music, vendors and excitement!

 “We are thrilled about the racing changes made to the Derby event the last few years.” said event producer, Shannon Heep.  “We have added more racing with new divisions and brackets.”  

The purpose of this event is not just to provide our community, its families and visitors with a weekend filled with fun, smiles, laughter and the excitement of racing”…. NEW THIS YEAR: We are Racing for CASA!

 This year’s event is benefitting CASA for the Highland Lakes Area, a local non-profit organization that recruits. trains and supervises Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA’s). CASA’s serve as the voices of children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect and placed in foster care. Volunteers from CASA strive to return hope to these children by moving them through the foster care system and into safe, loving and stable homes as quickly as possible. 

CASA for the Highland Lakes Area served over 440 children in Burnet, Llano, Lampasas, San Saba, and Blanco counties throughout the past year with an increase of 100% since 2010 and an increase of 26% just in the last year.  Due to the increase, CASA currently has a vital need for CASA volunteers. “Child abuse isn’t something that happens far away,” Heep said.  

“CASA volunteers help make a difference in lives of our most vulnerable children,” said Shannon Heep, Executive Director. “We need more members of our community to step up and get involved so every child has a loving place to call home.” The Soapbox Derby event is a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for the program, recruit volunteers and raise awareness.

Soapbox Derby Spectators can enjoy the races at the Grand Bank Grandstands: shade covered bleachers on the 3rd street race track.  Lawn chairs and small shade tents are also welcomed on the 3rd street track.  NO coolers please!  Parking is available in the parking lot at 2nd street and Ave J (please enter from 2nd street.) 

Do not confuse this event with the youth soapbox derby racing that began in the 1930’s.  This is an ADULT amateur racing event.  Individuals, families, social groups and business’ race cars that they have built themselves. Racing rules and guidelines are available on the event website.
