It’s time again to rosin up those bows because the Llano Fiddle Fest Weekend is coming back to Llano April 6th through April 8th! The featured event will be the 41st Llano Open Fiddle Contest. That’s a big deal for Llano, folks! What started as an open fiddle contest on the banks of the Llano River in Robinson Park in 1976 continues stronger than ever as a 3 day event.
Activities will feature a kick-off fiddle lunch concert at the new Texas Music Depot on Friday, April 6th, followed that evening by the popular “Air Fiddle” and “Anything Goes – Tricks and Licks” contests.
The Llano Open Fiddle Contest has become one of the top fiddle contests in the state of Texas and will be held on Saturday, April 7 at the historic Lantex Theater. Once again we expect some of Texas’ best fiddlers to show up and compete for the $1000 Grand Championship prize .
An evening concert following the Fiddle Contest on Saturday will showcase the talented fiddlers/musicians Warren Hood and special guest Erik Hokkanen with an opening performance by Tricia Spencer and Howard Rains. Tickets will be available at the Llano Visitor Center for only $10.
An antique musical instrument/fiddle history exhibit at the Llano County Museum is scheduled throughout the weekend. On Sunday morning there will be a Sunday service including the Amazing Grace Fiddles followed by a cowboy breakfast with old time fiddle music featuring Spencer and Rains.
There is no charge to the fiddle contestants or attendees at the contests, and donations collected at the events benefit local nonprofit groups. A current schedule of events and venues, contest information, and a photo gallery of videos and pictures from past fiddle contests are available at www.llanofiddlefest.com.
