Sizzler Disc Golf Tournament Year #10
Junction

For 10 consecutive years, Hoytt Moss and Charlie Chapman, in conjunction with Innova Disc Golf have held Junction Disc Golf Tournaments, disc golf players each year. 2018 is not any different as the event date is quickly approaching; Disc Golfers are making plans to be in Junction July 27th-30th.

Athletes may register to play in the Sizzler by visiting www.pdga.com and search for The Sizzler – Junction Texas or  www.facebook.com/events/1290584207656824/www.junctiontexas.com

With the implementation of additional baskets, participants have three exquisite courses to play on. With the number of baskets and courses, tournament officials do not anticipate having to cut off the number of players as they have had to do in the past.

This sport has rapidly grown in popularity across the nation, and Junction is becoming a premier location as it is one of the few places that have three18-hole disc golf courses for professional and amateur athletes to enjoy.

The “Sizzler” will begin on Friday, July 28th and concluded on Sunday. Athletes will play each day and conclude with the customary trip up to Lovers Leap, to attempt to make the well-known, sought after, “money shot” each evening after tournament play. Players refer to this activity with a variety terms; “Top of Texas” & “Mountain Shot”, which is an opportunity to toss a disc, “aka-Frisbee” from the top of Lovers Leap and have it land into the basket down below at the Easter Pageant grounds. This shot is yet to be made.

The vision of disc golf was first seen by Hoyt Moss and Charles Chapman approximately nine years ago. These two disc golf enthusiasts did not give up on seeing the development through to where it is today and have been approached with plans to host championship tournaments on an even larger scale than the two current tournaments: the Sizzler, which is held annually in July; and the Freezer, which is held each year in February. This event packs hotels, campgrounds, and river cabins for 3-4 days, which generates hotel occupancy tax dollars, as well as sales tax money for Junction.

Make plans to venture over to the courses at the city and county parks, and Junction Golf Course. The courses (baskets) are available at the two parks for anyone to utilize and enjoy year round, free of charge. Green fees are charged at the Junction Golf Course. The Junction Golf Club is a tremendous partner with disc golf as they have made arrangements to place baskets throughout their ball golf course, which has proven to benefit both styles of the sport. Disc golf, no different from ball golf, can be played by young and old alike, families are oftentimes seen enjoying the fun, entertainment, and skill of golf on Junction’s courses.

Junction Tourism has partnered with disc golf throughout the years and is proud to congratulate, encourage, and thank Hoyt and Charles for their hard-work. In addition to Hoyt and Charles, appreciation and recognition for hosting this event also goes to Joe Rotan with Innova Disc-Golf.
