Historic Building Materials began in 2013, due to an addiction. Whether or not that addiction is bad, depends entirely upon who you ask! After erecting a circa 1850 Wisconsin barn on his ranch, Jim Cauthen decided one barn wasn’t nearly enough to satisfy his love for reclaimed wood. He soon talked his life-long friend, Gary Lamb, into partnering on a business venture that would later become Historic Building Materials. Today, Historic sits on 5 acres, just outside Fredericksburg, Texas. It is constantly evolving, as new tastes in reclaimed building concepts appear in the ever-growing industry of reclaimed lumber.
At any given time, you can find up to 45,000 board feet of reclaimed long leaf pine, 8-10 thousand board feet of hand-hewn beams, reclaimed Fredericksburg stone, and untold amounts of barn wood. Barn doors can also be found there, as well as the newest addition to Historic – reclaimed, engineered flooring and wall board. If it’s not in stock, Don Millhouse, yard manager of Historic, knows where to find it! His nationwide contacts in the reclaimed industry are as extensive as his product knowledge. You supply the idea, and he brings it home to Fredericksburg, so your dream can become reality.
If you’re a designer or commercial builder, and need help finding material for your customer, please contact Charles Parcus, General Manager. He will coordinate the search with Don, and make your life a little easier by locating exactly what you require, to satisfy the even the most discriminating tastes in reclaimed construction.
There is no material on this planet, with the warmth, character, and charm, provided by reclaimed wood. You’ll also be adding a higher-quality material to your project, as reclaimed wood is from much stronger, old-growth trees. Our team looks forward to meeting you, and seeing your dream come to life through the use of Historic Building Materials!
