When you hear someone say, “There’s always something going on in that little town of Wimberley,” they’re not exagerating. Whether it be a festival, art and craft show, home tour, a play at one of three theaters, concert, rodeo, market day, duck race, Mardi Gras, crawfish boil, chili or gumbo cookoff, pie social, a movie at an outdooor theatre, holiday celebration or fundraiser you’d be hardpressed to find a weekend without something happening here.
November is especially busy as everyone is gearing up for the holidays. Just some of the events you can enjoy this month: the Wimberley Civic Club Home Tour; WVACA Wimberley Alive art and music festival; Crisis Bread Basket Empty Bowl Event; 11th annual Holiday Bazaar; Taffeta Christmas, A Christmas Carol and Trail of Lights at EmilyAnn Theater; Glass blowing demonstrations at Wimberley Glass Works and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike presented by the Wimberley Players. And enjoy the evening festivities at Winter’s Eve in December with music, food and Santa Claus.
WIMBERLEY COMMUNITY CIVIC CLUB HOME TOURThe 29th annual Home Tour will be held on November 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Tour opens with a very special event, the Candlelight Cocktail. The Candlelight Cocktail is the only opportunity to visit Glen Baldwin’s beautiful home in South River, since it is not included in the Tour. For reservations [email protected] Tickets $65 per person, $125 per couple.
This year five homes have been carefully selected to present different architectural and decorating styles. The Kapetanakis home, a semi-underground home tucked into a hillside on 10 oak-studded acres; the Allison home a bright, cheerful explosion of color, a derelict 1960’s house transformed into a private oasis; the McCullough home, a victim of the Memorial Day Flood, totally rebuilt and reimagined; the Phillips home, built in the 1960’s, looks like the farmstead of a family from hundreds of years ago; the Red Hawk Ranch, a contemporary rustic adobe house above Lone Man Creek, features art, architectural elements and Texas History and the Waters Point, a premier wedding venue and lodging facility, Matt and Natalie Meeks built from the devastation of Rio Bonito Resort.
The Winters-Wimberley Home will be open with one-of-a-kind gifts, a bake sale, and lunch served tour days from 12 to 2 p.m., at $12 per person. Tour tickets are $20 and are available at the Wimberley Visitors’ Center and the Winters-Wimberley House on the days of the tour. visitwimberleyccc.org

WIMBERLEY PLAYERS VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKEWhen the Wimberley Players present the comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike by Christopher Durang, audiences can expect a droll, satisfyingly absurd, and believable sibling comedy that will keep you laughing until the curtain falls. You can experience the fine acting and amazing talent Nov. 11 – Dec. 4, Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 2:30 p.m.
Three middle age siblings spend a weekend in the family home. Two are marooned there permanently, while the third, a narcissistic actress who bankrolls them, arrives with her new boy toy. Named by academic parents after characters in Chekov’s plays, the three compete for the limelight as well as the doom and gloom as they argue, debate, and bemoan their lots in life. They are goaded by the dour prophecies of their housekeeper and Masha’s clothing-optional boyfriend, Spike. Even if you’ve never read a word of Chekov, you’ll laugh at Durang’s sendup of sibling interactions.
A Tony and Drama Desk Award winning play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York.
Reserved Seating $20; Opening Night $22; Students $13 with ID, except opening night. Ticket prices include all fees and are available online at wimberleyplayers.org or by calling 512-847-0575. The Wimberley Playhouse is located on 450 Old Kyle Road, Wimberley. wimberleyplayers.org
