There's Gonna Be Mayhem On The Medina!
Grab your cowboy hat and sun bonnet and head for City Park in Bandera!
Mon, February 29, 2016 8:57 PM

There’s gonna be Mayhem on the Medina River! Scheduled for April 9th &10th. Gonna be a gunfight! That’s right! It’s the 3rd Annual Mayhem on the Medina, a competition with the National Reenactment Guild of America. Bandera has never turned down an opportunity to show off our cowboys! This time it is a bit different. It’s a gunfight like you have never seen...but the neat part is, it must be factual! The National Reenactment Guild of America has chosen Bandera as a National Competition location for a 2016 Reenactment event! We’re sure that every cowboy gunfighter, outfitters, and living history buff in the Nation will come to Bandera, Cowboy Capital of the World, to be judged! The best part is, the admission is FREE!!! And there is lots to do! Bring the kids because they will get the chance to participate in some games and toys of the late 1800’s! You might even get a good game of dominos going too!

The Reenactment Guild of America is an organization of Living Historians, Educators, Entertainers and Reenactors dedicated to the preservation of and education regarding the History of America's 19th Century, primarily but not restricted to the American Old West. The "RGA" is dedicated to accurate and historical presentations, so you can be sure they are watching to make sure all is accurate. The guild membership strives to preserve this part of American history and to provide a safe venue where the public may be both educated and entertained at the same time. Because historical truths are sometimes found to be fluid and open to interpretation, every effort is made to insure that members portray their characters or events in a historically correct manner which shall include but is not restricted to clothing, utensils, weapons, behavior and speech. Members spend a great deal of time researching for accuracy of all portrayed. This will make the event even more fun! But don’t worry, we will have some really funny gunfights too, well, just because!

Also performing will be the Celtaire String Band that specializes in playing "period" Americana music (dressed in period clothing from either the 1500s or 1800-1900s). Band members: Mel Peters (on fiddle & penneywhistle), Betty Peters on percussion & Limberjacks & Mark Shafer on mandolin & vocals and Mary Shafer on guitar & vocals are music presenters specializing in period correct music and dress.

Mayhem on the Medina is the perfect opportunity to visit the past with great, first class entertainment and a perfect day on the banks of the Medina. Arts and crafts will be there along with some great eats from our vendors Gates open at 9:30 am on Saturday and competition begins at 10am. On Sunday, gates will open at 8:00 am and the Ridin the River Cowboy Church will provide a free cowboy breakfast and Church services will begin at 8:45 am. Competition will begin at 10:00. For more information regarding the event, visit the web site at www.MayhemOnTheMedina.com or call 830-796-4447. Total Mayhem never was this much fun!
