We've all been there...the thrill of a vacation on the horizon, but the dread of security checks, baggage claim and adhering to someone else's schedule. The airline schedule, cruise ship, bus ... but have you thought about alternatives that give you full control of your vacation?
It's a new year and time for vacation resolutions. This year there is a better way. In fact, now is the perfect time to plan unrestricted, adventurous family vacations for the upcoming year. All you need is a Recreational Vehicle (RV), a map and time off with your family. Some benefits to owning an RV include affordable travel with your family and pets, and the ability to go wherever you want, whenever you want.
It's fun to find time to plan trips and make memories along the way, but taking time to shop for a new recreational vehicle can be overwhelming. Four primary types should be considered: Towable, Motorized, Specialty and Park Model.
Towable RVs
In order to move from one place to another, your Towable RV must be mounted on a motorized vehicle. Like any other vehicle, Towable RVs come in all different sizes, so it is very important to take the size of your family vehicle and its towing capacity into consideration when choosing your RV.
Motorized RVs
Unlike the Towable RVs, Motorized RVs are vehicles built entirely on a specially designed motor vehicle structure. These vehicles can be used for recreational camping, travel or seasonal use.
Specialty RVs
If you need an RV that complements your interests, such as horseback riding then you could look into RVs built to specifically meet those needs. Such RVs can carry large animals for travel or include accessible modifications for individuals with physical needs.
Park Model RVs
Park Model RVs are designed to look like a home but like any RV, need to be connected to site electricity, sewer and water. These type of RVs are made for recreation, camping or seasonal use.
Now that you've identified the type of RV that best suits your family, now it's time to shop for the best fitting style, price range and options.
One of the best places to start RV shopping is by going to an RV show. At RV shows, you can tour multiple RVs and ask local dealers all of your questions. The following tips can help for an easier RV shopping experience:
Set a price range
Think about types of floor plans that work best for you and your family
Pick out brands and manufacturers that best match your style
For a Towable RV, consider what you are going to be towing it with
For a Motorized RV, think about whether you would like it to be diesel or gas powered
Check if storage compartments are large enough to accommodate belongings
When touring RVs, make sure the rooms, the bathroom and the bed(s) are spacious and comfortable to move around in
