German Village Kaffee Haus serving German fare

Looking for some good authentic German fare in the Hill Country? Look no futher than the historic Germnan Village at the New Braunfels Conservation Society at 1300 Church Hill Drive in New Braunfels, November 7th-11th. The annual Kaffee Haus, held in the in the 1865 General Store in the historic village will be offering their famous German potato soup; authentic German wurst; pimiento cheese, chicken and ham salad sandwiches; homemade cookies, cakes, pies and more from 10:30am till 2pm. Come out and enjoy lunchMonday thru Friday – 10:00 until 2:30, Saturday and Sunday – 12:00 until 3:00 or call 830-832-9699 for to go orders.

You can also enjoy their “Pottery of the Texas Frontier,” display.  Pieces on display include Saenger Pottery, St Hedwig, TX 1880-1884 and Elmendorf, TX 1885-1915; Pfeiffer Jar by George Suttles, La Vernia, TX 1880-1912; Ernst Richter Pottery chamber pot, Elmendorf, TX circa 1890; Meyer Jug, Atascosa, TX circa 1900; George Suttles, La Vernia, TX, 1880-1912; John M Wilson Pottery circa 1857-1869, approx. 100 left in existence. 

November 4th thru the 13th, be sure to tour the quaint buildings in Conservation Plaza, including the Lindheimer House and the Buckhorn Barbershop. Tours will be held Tuesdaythru Sunday 9:30am till 2pm. The plaza is closed on Mondays.

NBCS recently aquired the Arnold-Rauch-Brandt Home, a beautiful example of an early German-Texan style home with hand-chiseled limestone and hand-hewn timbers, located off State Highway 46 just west of New Braunfels in Comal County. This area was historically considered Mission Valley.  The homestead is on 10 acres deeded to the New Braunfels Conservation Society for the purpose of preservation of the property to be maintained as close to the construction period of 1854 to 1883 as possible.
