Small and delicate, and clearly out of place, it sat nestled between two larger stones. Arrowhead! It probably hid in plain sight there for hundreds of years. Few things spark the imagination, and dozens of questions, like finding a real arrowhead! Who left it – how old is it – which tribe lived and hunted around here?
Those and many other answers may be found at the Hill Country Indian Artifact Show, to be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Lady Bird Johnson Park (Pioneer Pavilion). The show will run from 8am to 4pm, and will feature refreshments, BBQ, door prizes, and answers. You can finally get that arrowhead positively identified – or perhaps verified as authentic. Kids under 14 are free.
Focusing primarily on the Texas Hill Country, you will find booths and displays of primitive pottery, trade beads, and other historic and prehistoric artifacts. Rustic collections like antique guns, spurs, and western collectables will whip the imagination. You will find collector equipment like display boxes, artifact cases, shadow boxes, and other methods to showcase your treasures. Many artifacts will be available for purchase or sale at the show.
Just by walking from display to display you can learn about Texas history, early rural education, and how people lived, farmed, and survived in the rugged hill country. You can buy books on identification, responsible collecting, history, guns, and of adventure along the trails and byways of this great state of Texas!
