Film Showcases Life of Herman Lehmann

The Former Texas Rangers Foundation are hosting a tribute to the German Pioneers of the Texas Hill Country and their descendants by featuring the North American Premiere of the German film, “Herman der Apache” - The life of Herman Lehmann and Esther Lehmann’s oral testimony.

Herman Lehmann, born in 1859 near Mason, Texas to German immigrants, was captured as a child by Native Americans. He lived first among the Apache and then the Comanche, but eventually returned to his family later on in his life. The phenomenon of a “white boy” raised by “Indians” made him a notable figure in the United States.

The tribute will be held on November 5 at the Texas Rangers Heritage Center in Fredericksburg, Texas. It will be a Texas History Fest with the showing of «Herman der Apache», along with a traditional German dinner and entertainment by Der Holzchecter Blaskapele, starting at 5:30 pm. There will be reenactor Texas Rangers and the headquarter company in full period uniforms attending the event. Herman Lehmann’s personal artifacts will be on display at the dinner, as well. Tickets are $50 a person and can be reserved by calling 830-990-1192. More details on the event can be found at www.trhc.org.
