Live pari-mutuel horse racing returns to Fredericksburg on July 2 and 3 when the Gillespie County Fair & Festivals Association hosts its first race meet of the summer. On tap at the Class 3 track is a full slate of quarter horse and thoroughbred racing as well as special races, trials, and futurities. Gates open 11 a.m.; post time is 1:00 p.m.
Admission to the races is $7 for adults, $3 for children six to 15 years of age and free for children five and under. Reserved seats are $10 and box seats are $15. Advance tickets may be purchased online by visiting www.gillespiefair.com.
This is the first of four two-day race meets at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds. Upcoming dates are July 16 & 17, Aug 13 & 14, and Aug 27 & 28. The Association will also host a new Sommerzeit Fest on July 16, the 7th Annual Professional Bull Riding (PBR) on Sept 10, and Scholarship Fest on Sept 24.
The 127th Gillespie County Fair runs Aug 25-28, with musical shows by Gene Watson, Granger Smith, and Jeff Woolsey.
Gillespie County Fair Grounds is located 3 miles south of downtown Fredericksburg on Hwy 16.
