In 1987 the citizens of Blanco took on a huge challenge when they voted to keep The Old Blanco County Courthouse on Blanco's Historic Town Square for the benefit and use of the community. In the hands of the then newly- formed Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society, the historic Courthouse, built in 1885, found a new lease on life and has become an integral part of the community. The citizens and businesses of Blanco have also played their part over the years in supporting ongoing efforts to preserve and maintain the iconic structure. Since 1990 the biggest annual fundraising event in Blanco has been The Old Blanco County Courthouse Gala.
This year's 25th Anniversary celebration, themed The Silver Spur Gala, promises to be bigger and better than ever. The Gala will be held on the grounds of The Old Blanco County Courthouse in Blanco, Texas on Saturday, October 17, from 6 until 9 p.m. Gala guests will enjoy Real Ale Brewery's beer as well as wine provided by each of the restaurants that touch Blanco's Historic Square. These restaurants include Red Bud Cafe, Oak Creek Café, Blanco Pizza Company, Old 300 Bar B Que and The Bowling Club. Sullivan Street Caterers will be providing hors d'oeuvres being at 6 p.m. to be followed by a scrumptious dinner of prime rib, chicken, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. Red Bud Café is preparing their wonderful salad. The Bean and Biscuit is making a special Courthouse Cake for desert.
Come listen and dance to the modern big band sound of Austin's own The Vintage 15, look over the silent auction tables or bid on unique, one-of-a-kind offerings in the live auction, which follows dinner. This year's live auction items range from a mounted elk head to a guitar autographed by Jimmie Vaughn.
