The Blanco junior varsity football team picked up a 21-6 win over Johnson City last Thursday.
After a scoreless first quarter, Blanco took over after a punt at the Johnson City 42. The Panthers moved the ball down the field on a pass from quarterback Cameron Anderson to Estevan Lopez and carries by Fernando Palacios and Estevan Lopez. Joe Lopez rushed the final three yards for the touchdown for a 7-0 lead with 1:54 left in the first quarter.
The Panther defense played tough and kept the Eagles at bay. Grant Jones, Fabian Carrillo, Estevan Lopez and Trevin Young all made tackles, and Carson Romero made a huge pass deflection. The Eagles were forced to punt.
Blanco took over with 41 seconds remaining in the half. With the ball on their own 35, Anderson picked had runs of 10 and 12 yards into JC territory. From the Eagles’ 43, Anderson threw a deep pass to Joe Lopez, who drug a defender in to the end zone to score his second touchdown of the game. Blanco led 14-0 at halftime.
The third quarter was scoreless. The defense was strong again with tackles by Romero, Jones, Young, Joe Lopez and Estevan Lopez. Reggie Johnson also had a sack.
In the fourth quarter, Johnson recovered a fumble at the Eagles’ 15, which the Panthers capitalized on with a touchdown run by Palacios for a 21-0 lead with 7:51 left in the game. The Eagles’ lone score came in the waning minutes of the game.
