Patrick Henry Corder
Patrick Henry Corder

Patrick Henry Corder, 71, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and friends, on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, after being diagnosed with cancer in early June.

Pat’s wife and children wish to extend special thanks to all those who gave of their hearts, their time, their care, and their prayer during our time of need over these last couple of months. We love and appreciate you all.

Patrick was born in Victoria, Texas on Aug. 24, 1949 to parents Kenneth Lee Corder and Beatrice Marie Wheeland-Corder-Edwards. He was raised on the Texas Gulf Coast and later lived in the San Antonio area. After leaving MacArthur High School, he enlisted in the Army and was quickly sent to Vietnam. He served with distinction in the 82nd Infantry and the 101st Airborne Division. He met Patricia LaRee Mackey before he left high school and they married when he was just 21 years old, the same year he left the Army. The couple moved to Blanco in 1974. Pat and Patti celebrated 50 years together on Aug. 25, 2020. He could often be heard asking her, “Have I told you that I love you today, butterfly?”

Pat was a simple man with simple tastes. He was a master gardener and landscape designer by trade. He was hard working and tough as nails, but also extremely kind and incredibly generous. Pat was well loved and will truly be missed by those who called him “family” or “friend.” He will be remembered as a father to many, an exceptional cook, a horrifyingly relaxed driver, the man with the greenest thumb on earth, and even a somewhat friendly older gentleman who walked with a cane and popped into the Lowe’s grocery store in B-Town to take part in the local chit-chat.

Patrick is survived by his wife Patricia; son, Patrick S. Corder and wife Amber (Newby), and their son Patrick; daughter, Azure L. Godwin and husband David, and their son Wyatt; Son-in-Spirit James Sierra and family; Daughter-in-Spirit Shawna McFadden and family; brother, Kenneth L. Corder and wife Pamela; and many more loving family and friends.

Patrick was preceded in death by both of his parents, an older brother, his favorite uncle Henry, and his aunt Aline.

All are welcome to attend the memorial to celebrate Pat’s life. His memorial will be held at Gem of the Hills in Blanco, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.
