The Blanco Panther junior varsity football team won its season opener with a shutout over the Brownwood 9B team.

The Panthers set the tone for the game holding Brownwood on their first possession and forcing a punt. Starting from the Brownwood 39-yard line, the Panthers moved the ball well. Connor Cofield made a 25-yard gain and Cooper Berne moved the ball 13 yards to the one. Cofield took it in for the touchdown. After an errant snap on the extra point attempt, kicker Fernando Palacios ran for the two point conversion. Blanco led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The defense forced Brownwood to punt again. With combined carries by Estevan Lopez, Joe Lopez and Palacios, the Panthers moved the ball to the two yard line. Cofield punched it in for the score. Palacios kicked the extra point and the Panthers led 15-0 with 7:10 remaining in the second quarter.

Palacios scored the next Blanco touchdown on a 65-yard run and he added the extra point. Blanco led 22-0 in the second.

On the next Panther possession, Cofield, Estevan Lopez, Cameron Anderson and Palacios moved the ball to the 11-yard line. Anderson threw a touchdown pass to Joe Lopez in the end zone. Blanco led at the half 28-0.

The Panthers added another touchdown in the third quarter on a run by Palacios and an extra point kick by Palacios. Blanco led 35-0 with 8:57 remaining in the third. The two teams exchanged possessions in the third and fourth quarters. Jacob Shell, Ryder Moorman and Fabian Carrillo ran the ball for Blanco. The Panthers won 35-0.

Defensively, Carrillo grabbed an interception. Grant Jones, Davis Van Dyke, Trevin Young, Carson Romero, Rowdy Topper, Carlos Chavez, Reggie Johnson, Michael McCleary, Tyler Burney, Estevan Lopez, Bennett Brock, Palacios and Carrillo all made tackles.

The Blanco JV travels to Shiner on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. game.
