

The Blanco volleyball team added two wins to its record last week defeating the Harper Lady Horns 3-0 and the San Antonio Saints Home School 3-1. Set scores against Harper Saturday, Aug. 29 were 25-15, 25-13 and 25-7. Set scores versus the SA Saints Tuesday, Aug. 25 were 25-16, 25-11, 23-25 and 25-20. The varsity team improves to 6-5 on the season.
The team seems to have found a rhythm on offense with good passes, sets and kills that have been very effective. “The girls have really been working hard in practice, and I’ve seen improvement every week in their level of play,” said coach Jane Karnes. “Our serve receive execution has been a big part of our recent success in games.”
Saturday against Harper, Emilee LaRue led the team with 11 kills and one block. Presley Young followed closely with 10 kills, one block, one assist and four digs. Raylee Faris hit four kills, adding one ace and one block. Olivia Atchley set the ball for 30 assists. Atchley also tallied three aces, two blocks and five digs. Emma Srackangast and Lily Porter each served one ace. Porter also made two assists and five digs. Casey Eskew hit one block. Jaycie Gloor made nine digs.
The junior varsity beat the Lady Horns 2-1 with set scores 20-25, 25-14 and 25-19. Haleigh Charles paced the team with six kills and 16 digs. Cassidy Daves led the team with 19 digs. Peyton West hit two blocks. Jennah Atchley hit three kills and three aces. Dianka Edwards set 11 assists. West, Edwards and Grayci Jung each served one ace.
The freshmen defeated Harper 2-0 with set scores 25-14, 25-13. Hemma Porter hit six kills, one ace and made eight digs. Sydney Shiller scored with four kills, one ace and one block. Kate Capshaw made five set assists and four aces. Erika Calzoncit had four assists and two aces. Mina Broyles 12 digs. Alex Beliveau made seven digs. Wesley Whitehead served one ace.
In the game Tuesday against the Saints, the varsity was led by Young with 16 kills, 14 digs, three blocks and one assist. LaRue hit 14 kills and two blocks and made 12 digs. Atchley, Faris and Carly Romero each made five kills. Atchley set the ball for 35 assists, made 14 digs and served one ace. Jaycie Gloor served six aces and made 18 digs and five assists. Eskew and Romero each hit two blocks with Faris adding one block. Porter served one ace and made one assist.
The junior varsity posted set scores 25-19, 25-20 for the win. Charles led with eight kills and five digs. Atchley hit five kills and made seven digs. Edwards made 16 assists, two kills and four aces. Daves made 19 digs and one ace. Molly Melton served one ace. Kelly Karnes hit one block.
The freshman team won 25-14, 25-20. Porter made four kills and eight digs. Shiller hit four kills and one block. Beliveau made one kill and five digs. Capshaw had five assists, two aces and six digs. Skyler Soldwisch made one kill and four digs. Calzoncit served one ace and made two assists. Broyles and Nessah Marquette each made four digs. Gemma Broglie added one dig and one assist.
Following Tuesday, Sept. 1 games against Johnson City, the Lady Panthers host Canyon Lake on Friday. Games starts at 4:30 p.m. for the freshmen, followed by the junior varsity and varsity.
