Hilary Fred Huser
Hilary Huser

Hilary Huser, loving brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 6, 2020 with family at his side.

Hilary was born Sept. 6, 1934 in D’Hanis to Fred Huser and Johanna Postert Huser, who preceded him in death. He married Mary Turner on Sept. 10, 1955 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in D’Hanis and they lived together almost 65 years before Hilary’s death. They had five children: Mitchell (Barbara), Kathleen, Michael (Donna) and Jeffery (Stacie). Daughter Jayne Ann Huser preceded her parents in death. They also had three grandchildren: Chad Selby in Ohio, Ryan Huser (Amber) in Blanco and Big Hilary’s favorite (and only) granddaughter, Hilary Nicole (Jason) in Iowa. In addition there are three great-grandchildren – Issabella Huser, Barrett Wilken and Hadley Huser, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Hilary had six siblings: brothers Herbert, Herman and Lawrence and sisters Mary Jane and Ruth, who preceded him in death. Sister Imelda Burrell resides in D’Hanis.

Hilary spent most of his career in the trucking industry, but after retirement his focus was on giving back to his community. Their friend Kee described him very well:

For those who haven’t heard, Hilary Huser died very early this morning (Aug. 6) at home with Mary and some of their children at his side.

“Hilary was, along with Mary, a mainstay of Good Samaritan Thrift Store for many years, with Mary running the store and Hilary taking care of the pantry. I believe that Bert would tell you that it was Hilary who persuaded him to the job as food pantry manager. “Just a few hours a month is all it takes, Bert!”

“After Hilary retired from Good Samaritan, you could find him delivering wood that he had chopped to people around town. For some of them it was their only source of winter heat. He was also the baker of delicious molded anise cookies, made from an old family recipe with time-consuming care, which he distributed at Christmas time.

“He was a lovely man and I will miss him.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Ferdinands Catholic Church (building fund), 25 Main St., Blanco, TX 78606.
