Active COVID-19 cases in county drop for second week

Blanco County has one fewer active COVID-19 case in the latest numbers made available by the Blanco County Office of Emergency Management.

There were 77 active cases as of Tuesday morning, down from the 78 reported Aug. 3. Active cases have dropped by 12 in the past two weeks, when there were 89.

There have been 115 total confirmed cases, up three in the past week. There have been 36 confirmed recoveries in the county, up four in the past week. The cases under investigation have fallen from 19 to 18 in the past week.

Recoveries have continued to climb in the past four weeks. There have been 28 reported recoveries during that time frame, meaning 28 of the 36 reported recoveries have occured in the past month.

Cases under investigation continue to fall. There were 32 under investigation two weeks ago, and that fell to 19 last week. This week’s number under investigation at 10 mean that number has gone down by 14 over the past two weeks.

Blanco County had its first confirmed COVID-19 case announced March 23, while the second confirmed case wasn’t announced until April 2. The numbers started to climb at a faster pace in June and have risen throughout the summer, until a recent slowdown.

Two people in the county have died from the virus. The first, a man in his 60s who lived in the Johnson City zip code, died in May. A second death was announced in late July of a woman in her 70s, who also lived in the Johnson City zip code.

The state reports three additional deaths, but these are being confirmed by Region 7 epidemiologists and will not be included in the county’s numbers until confirmed.
