Second COVID-19 death in county announced

A second death attributed to COVID-19 in Blanco County has been announced.

A woman in her 70s, who lived in the Johnson City zip code, died of the disease, the Blanco County Office of Emergency Management announced late last week. “She was exposed to COVID-19 and subsequently developed symptoms,” BCOEM reported. “After worsening at home, she was admitted to the hospital, and eventually had to be placed on a ventilator...she remained on the ventilator for 16 days before passing away from COVID.”

The county’s first COVID-19 death was announced in late May. A man in his 60s, who also lived in the Johnson City zip code, died of the virus.

There are 78 active COVID-19 cases in Blanco County as of Aug. 3, a drop of 11, down from 89 in the past week. The total of confirmed cases of the virus is now 112. There have now been 32 confirmed recoveries in the county, while 19 cases are currently under investigation.

Numbers of recoveries took a huge jump in the past week. There were 12 recoveries listed as of early last week, and that number has increased by 20 in a week. There have now been 24 recoveries in the past three weeks.

Cases under investigation dropped to 19, from 32 last week. Confirmed cases in the past week rose by 10, from 102 to 112.

Blanco County had its first confirmed COVID-19 case announced March 23, while the second confirmed case wasn’t announced until April 2. The numbers started to climb at a faster pace in June.
