One of the longest ongoing events in Blanco County will see a hiatus of at least one year.
The Blanco County Fair and Rodeo Association board announced Saturday that the annual county fair and rodeo will be canceled for 2020. It was to be the event’s 90th year.
The board cited health and safety concerns, along with current regulations, as reasons to cancel the county fair and rodeo this year. It was slated for August.
“This was a difficult decision, but unfortunately, with the current situation, we felt it was our only option,” the board said in its announcement. The board also expressed appreciation for volunteers and sponsors of the event. “We are looking forward to seeing you all next year,” the announcement said.
The event’s cancellation means there will not be a livestock show, in addition to other events to include baking and sewing competitions, exhibits, games, carnival rides, the fair queen competition, parade, rodeo and more.
A spike in coronavirus cases locally has also led to several closings. The Old Blanco County Courthouse and Visitor Center announced Monday it would close until July 6.
“We have also had an incident of exposure in the building last week, so we are being super cautious for the sake of our tenants, visitors and our community,” the closing announcement stated.

Also on Monday, the Lone Star Capital Bank branch in Blanco announced it has temporary closed due to a confirmed case of COVID-19.
“We have taken immediate action to ensure that our employees and our community are safe,” the announcement read. “We are temporarily closing the branch to be professionally cleaned and sanitized and will remain closed until further notice.”
The bank urged customers to bank online or use its mobile app, or contact its Johnson City branch for additional assistance. The Johnson City branch is located at 403 U.S. Hwy. 281 and can be reached by phone at 830-868-4051.
Twin Sisters Dance Hall also announced Monday that it would be closed to the public through July.
