Zerl “Slim” Douglas Gillaspia born April 27, 1933 of Elgin, Oklahoma passed away at the age of 87, at his home in Johnson City, Texas on May 1, 2020 surrounded by family and friends.
Son of the late George M. and Pearl A. (Harris) Gillaspia. Zerl was a decorated war veteran who served with 78th AAA Gun Battalion during the Korean War followed by 6 years of service with the Army Reserves.
Zerl is survived by his loving wife Gwendolyn (Coffee) Gillaspia, daughters Deborah Martin, Cynthia Boyd, Becky Gillaspia, and the late Carol Page. He was a loving grandfather and great grandfather to eight children. Zerl was also one of seven siblings, an uncle to many nieces and nephews as well as a friend to anyone that crossed his path.
His time on earth was filled with love, laughter and many adventures. He will be forever loved and missed by all.
The Gillaspia family wishes to give thanks to all who entered dad’s life and made it full. May he rest in peace.
Due to do current Covid-19 regulations, family services were held in Blanco Historic Cemetery.
