Lavender has become the latest victim of the coronavirus.
The Blanco Lavender Festival has been canceled for 2020, the Blanco Chamber of Commerce announced Friday. What would have been the 16th annual celebration was set to be held June 12-14, 2020.
“We have made this difficult decision in the interest of everyone’s health and safety – our volunteers, our vendors, our visitors, our team’s, and our hometown’s,” the chamber said in an email Friday. “The open nature of our layout and the many thousands of attendees, that make this event such a tremendous success for all of us, also make socially distancing of six feet impossible. Also, we must also comply with the state’s guidelines.”
The annual event is all about lavender – with vendors of all kinds featuring it in various products, to speakers on various lavender-related topics, live music, the ability to purchase Texas-made products and more.
“We’ll take time to reflect and regroup to make Lavender Festival 2021 better than ever,” the email said. “Without the support of our community, and the talent of our almost 150 vendors, there would be no Lavender Festival, and we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for all the years of support.”
The event is also a fundraiser for the Blanco Chamber of Commerce. Libbey Ally, chamber executive director, said there’s a possibility an event could be added later in the year, but nothing has been decided at this point.
