Cooks descend on Blanco for 50th ladies state chili championship
Laura Coad of San Angelo, Keeva Frazier of San Angelo and Phyllis Greiner of Round Rock form the team Sugar Skull Senoritas. The entered the chili and showmanship portions of Saturday’s Ladies State Chili Championship of Texas at Yett Park in Blanco.

What makes a good chili? It depends on who you ask, but Laura Coad of San Angelo just might know. She finished second at the Ladies State Chili Championship of Texas last year. She was the state winner in 1998. “Just a good combination of good spices that people mix together,” she said. “It’s meat and gravy.
