DORIS ARLENE COX
(1927-2019)

Doris Arlene Cox, 92, of Blanco Texas, passed away Sept. 6, 2019. Doris was born August 4, 1927 in Hartland, Michigan to Byron and Altha Yager. Doris lived in Blanco for over 30 years, having moved here from Dallas to be closer to her children who live in Blanco, San Antonio and Austin. Doris always believed in the power of giving. She generously gave to her family, friends and her community, giving her time, her resources, her gifts and talents, and most of all, her love.

Doris was always very active in her community, but the light of her life was the time she devoted to her grandchildren. She shared her love of nature by taking them on adventures, and by encouraging them to be curious and explore the things that interested them. Doris’s imagination was limitless when it came to joining the kids in creating characters and costumes and stories and games.

Doris will be remembered for her inspired leadership and devoted contributions to many projects around Blanco, including the ‘Save the Old Blanco County Courthouse’ project, Blanco Amateur Theater Group, volunteering at the Blanco Library for many years and serving on the task force that brought water to Blanco from Canyon Lake. She diligently worked to help develop Bindseil Park. During these years of community involvement, she also provided heartfelt hospitality to visitors through her “My Little Guesthouse” B&B near the Blanco River.

At age 76, she enrolled in a four-year college degree in healing arts and completed another year of graduate studies. Her choice of a degree in healing arts is one more way Doris was inspired to give.

Doris was preceded in death by her son, Paul William Cox. She is survived by her son, Robert J. Cox II (Nickie Wolfe Cox) and her daughter Melissa Cox Wolf (Wayne A. Wolf), daughter-in-law Michelle Cox, former daughter-in-law Karen Lang, and seven grandchildren, Amy Jurewicz (Chris D’Amura), Audrey Harig (J.R.), Trey Cox, Byron Cox, William Cox, Laurel Cox and Crystal Cox, as well as five great-grandchildren.

In keeping with her love of learning and science, Doris’s remains were donated to the Glenn Bigg’s Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Disease at the UT Health Science Center. A memorial service will be held in Blanco September 28 at 10 a.m. at the St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 218 Pittsburgh St., Blanco, TX 78606.
