The Blanco County Fair wants your entries—from informational booths, baked goods to photos of the Hill Country and crafts.
Entries in 21 different categories will be checked in from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Exhibit Hall the Blanco County Fairgrounds, according to Diane Schoenert, who is serving her first year as Fair Superintendent. Entries for perishable goods only can be brought to the Exhibit Hall between 8 and 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16. More information is available BCFRA.org including event and rule information.
The Exhibit Hall will be closed for judging at 10 a.m. Friday morning. Judges are community experts in their fields, such as Pecan St. Brewing, and other county extension agents who help out, said Schoenert.
The Exhibit Hall opens to the public from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 and from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. Entries must be retrieved between noon and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.
“This year has an expanded potential area for exhibitors,” Schoenert said. “Anyone from the counties that surround Blanco County can exhibit at the fair.”
The Blanco County Master Gardeners check in exhibits and exhibitors where you’re likely to meet Schoenert.
“We encourage anyone to think about exhibiting in the categories listed on the BCFRA.org website,” Schoenert said. “Make a cake or fruit cobbler. There is a lot of interesting metal-working that is done in this county, and it would be great to see that work on display, in addition to the work that the FFA students bring in.”
She urges county residents of all ages and ability to bring in entries.
“Think about the photos you’ve taken over the course of the year and enter one. It has been an interesting year for gardeners,” she said. “If you’ve done any canning this year, enter your home-canned products. Crafts and hobby items are always popular exhibits at the fair.”
“We are excited to have a really interesting quilt exhibit this year,” Schoenert said. “We’ve got 4-H members exhibiting their quilts and with such strong and vibrant quilting guilds in Johnson City and Blanco, we hope to see their handiwork on display.”
“This year, there will be informational booths featuring the Blanco County Master Gardeners, the Blanco-Pedernales Groundwater Conservation District and 4-H members, we hope,” she said. “Both county political parties will have information on how to register to vote as well as other information."
Booth display is open to any community, club or organization in Blanco County for one exhibit. Contact Mamie Moraw, County Ext. Office at (830) 868-7167 for information
“We’d like to see more younger kids get involved this year,” Schoenert said. “We encourage the community to come and check out the exhibit hall for some good old-fashioned country fun.”
