The Combined Community Action (CCA) Senior Nutrition Program also known as “Meals on Wheels” of Blanco, sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church was facing a hole with the loss of former coordinator Claudia Smith.
Lainie Parker, a 23-year-old Blanco resident knew she had to answer the call to serve after Smith left; having seen the benefits of the program firsthand when her grandfather was a recipient while she was a little girl.
Parker performs multiple tasks as the coordinator. She is available Tuesday through Thursday mornings at the church to receive food that is delivered CCA. She then portions the food based on the number of recipients at time.
She also manages and schedules the multiple volunteers who deliver the meals, she’ll also run the route herself when needed.
This part-time job works perfectly with Parker’s college schedule and allows her to be involved with the community of Blanco.
Meals on Wheels, serves hot, noon meals to home-bound persons who are 60 years of age and older and their spouses in a six-county area.
Twenty communities are served in total, the program receives funds from the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities (DADS)
