Juan Quezada spent his boyhood scouring the canyons and forests of Mexico’s Sierra Madre in search of wood with which to make charcoal to sell in the local markets. Wherever his huarache-clad feet carried him in that scenic land, he found evidence of a past civilization, mostly in the form of pottery shards.
