City Proposes 24.5 Percent Tax Hike
During a special meeting at the end of August, the Blanco City Council voted on a proposal to increase the local property tax levy from 25.83 cents, a rate which has remained unchanged since 2006, to 32.18 cents per every $100 of assessed valuation. The increase amounts to about 24 ½ percent. Prior to the vote, which was not unanimous, council members discussed and voted on a number of less contentious items. Martha Gosnell was absent. The city’s tax rate was the final item of business.
