COMFORT, TEXAS…Christmas in Comfort, one of the area’s most popular holiday events, will draw visitors to the Texas Hill Country for holiday shopping and family fun on November 28, the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Now in its 34th year, Christmas in Comfort offers more than 80 vendors and a full day of holiday activities from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Its outdoor setting makes it an

ideal place to kick-off the Christmas season.

Sponsored by the Comfort Chamber of Commerce in the Historic District, the event captures the spirit of the holidays with small town ambiance as merchants attract shoppers with festive holiday decor and holiday lights throughout the historic district.

Though the event will be outside with extra space between booths, face masks will be mandatory and social distancing must be observed. Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the area.

Traditionally, shoppers arrive early to shop at merchants in the Historic District and at more than 80 arts and crafts vendors along High and 7th Streets. Arts and crafts booths and a Food Court with a variety of foods and beverages will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The live music stage will be located at 7th and High Streets with ongoing entertainment from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Performers include Josh Peek, the Raggedy Cats, The Comfort Crew, and Comfort Celtic.

Kids can have photos taken with Santa with their own cell phones or cameras from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Santa Land. All contributions to Santa go to Comfort Park improvements. Elves will be on hand to spread good cheer and hand out candy canes.

Family activities also include a petting zoo located just off of High Street and a Re-sale/Book sale by the Comfort Library from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Book Depot on Main Street near 7th Street. In addition, the Heritage Foundation will sell gingerbread cookies for families to take home and decorate.

Following a local tradition, the Post Office will have a booth on 7th Street with a special “Christmas in Comfort” cancellation stamp for stamped cards and letters.

Visitors will gather on High Street at 6:30 p.m. for the lighting of the town Christmas tree. Janis and Garry Schwab, founders of the Weinachten Lichter (Christmas Lights) lighted night parade, will do the count down and the Miss Comfort Court will flip the switch. A glittering fireworks display begins at 8 p.m.

Located just 30 minutes from San Antonio, Comfort provides the perfect setting for a small-town Christmas. With a population of 3,300 and a rich history, Comfort brims with character and charm. The star of the German-pioneered Texas Hill Country, Comfort has nearly 100 pre-1910 buildings within walking distance of the town center and a large part of Comfort has been designated a National Historic District. Amid this historic setting, Comfort offers great shopping, antiques, wineries, restaurants, and unique bed and breakfasts and other types of lodging.

There is no admission fee for Christmas in Comfort. Because of the popularity of the event and the growth in the number of people attending, event organizers ask the public to leave pets at home for their own comfort and safety.
