It’s that time of year! Clean out your closets, cabinets and attics to participate in the Llano Area Wide Garage Sale—or clean out your trunk and get ready for some sweet purchases! The garage sale will take place on Saturday, February 1 at the John L. Kuykendall Events Center and Arena from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Shoppers will be there ahead of time, waiting for the clock to strike nine, ready to make their deals. Be prepared for the $1 entry free. Proceeds and donations will go directly to the preservation and restoration of the Red Top Jail.
The JLK Center holds space for 51 booths inside, with plenty of room for overflow outside. This makes for a can’t miss garage sale. You’ll find great deals on a vast selection of gently used items. Merchandise includes furniture, antiques, crafts, handmade items and much more. The possibilities are endless!
Vendors interested in a 12-foot-by-12-foot booth have until 5 p.m. Friday, January 24, to reserve one for $25. The early bird will get the worm—or burrito that is. Good to Go Food vendor will be on site serving breakfast at the event. People from all over the world have showed interest in the history of the jail and its occupants. Donations could help the jail to be open weekly after construction is complete.
On Saturday, February 15, Castell General Store is having their Annual Chili Cook Off. Approximately 20 teams, some local, but many travel across Texas just to participate in the friendly yet fierce competition. You don’t have to be a cook or judge to partake in the savory chili tasting—cooks are generous when handing out samples. One year, one of the entries served chili cooked with jackrabbit meat, so expect the unexpected when chili tasting down in Castell!
February 28-March 1 the Llano’s Cultural and Art Alliance is hosting their first Llano Creative Getaway Weekend, where 16 different workshops will be taught by local artists and experts. Llano County is home to countless talented artists who want to share their passion with others. This weekend is the opportunity to come learn from them through three-hour hands-on classes. From rock balancing and painting, to geology field trips and gourd art, there is sure to be a workshop for you. Register for your choice of four workshops by January 27, 2020.
