Changes Underway at Colorado Bend

These are exciting times at Colorado Bend State Park! After two years of planning and hard work the Tinaja Trail is open. The unique feature of the Tinaja itself is impressive – as are the vistas, native plants, and bird life along the trail. The overlook deck on the Tie Slide Trail has also been completed. It’s a great hike and the deck affords stunning views looking down the Colorado River canyon!

New events are being sponsored by CBSP like the Great Texas Birding Classic held there last May. Birders from San Saba, Lampasas, Georgetown and surrounding areas showed up to help identify as many birds as could be spotted or heard from the count circle. Registration fees raise money for Texas bird and birding conservation project grants.

Not to be forgotten are guided Wild Cave Tours at CBSP. There’s some excitement in an alien environment right on this planet!

San Saba Bird and Nature Club welcomes Jason Hairston, Park Interpreter/Resource Manager for Colorado Bend State Park as speaker on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. Come join us at the San Saba Civic Center, beginning at 2pm. Everyone with an interest is welcome to attend.

Mr. Hairston obtained a BA in Business Administration and a Masters in Natural Resources Recreation Management from Texas A&M University. Jason has been with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and at Colorado Bend State Park since 2013.
