Horseshoe Bay, we have our own musicians, artists and creative and performing arts enthusiasts all coming together for the arts first presentation of the “2016 Paint the Town”. the arts is a rapidly emerging new non-profit that is joining the wave of energy and people coming to our Highland Lakes area. Their message of “inclusion”, “collaboration” and “the power of Creativity” to connect All is starting to resonate with everyone. 2016 Paint the Town is the very first event totally organized and managed by the arts.
Einstein “Creativity is intelligence having fun”
Paint the Town has been hugely expanded this year; it will be a “Site for the Senses”. For four days the arts will be hosting this fabulous event at the Marble Falls Lakeside Pavilion. Open at 10:00 AM to all, every day and free of charge, there will be music, food, wine and an expansive Gallery hung with paintings from the 40 + Paint the Town artists coming from Alaska, California, Florida, New Mexico, Oregon and throughout the State of Texas.
Also, in these past few weeks, area Middle and High School students have been competing for their opportunity to spend all day Friday, April 1st, sharing Plein Air demonstrations with four of the professional artists, then painting their own Plein Air pieces to be entered into a blind judging and exhibited in the Students Gallery for sale. Friday evening the arts is hosting an “Artist Paint Off” from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, where the professional artists will be challenged to paint a live model. A fabulous “must see”.
During Paint the Town, the incredible Science Mill from Johnson City is presenting their three magical, interactive “arts stations” for all ages to experience. 3 D drawing pens, a robot that can be programed to do watercolors and a solar printer. Come see these wonderful examples of the power of STEAM “Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math”. Added to this, the arts will be guiding and inspiring minds through its “Artist Trading Cards” interactive “arts station”. No talent needed. You will sit with many of our Horseshoe Bay artists at a massive table, starting with a 2" x 3" white card. Cutting, gluing, painting, attaching “findings” and drawing – you will be amazed at your own natural creativity. Once your cards are complete, you can give them away or pin them to the Trading Card Gallery Board and take another down for yourself. The Science Mill and the arts will have a continued collaboration to bring this power of awareness and possibility through creativity to all ages.
Every day, music will be a major part of this four day event. Thursday evening for the Artist Reception, a professional, local jazz band will set the creative and fun tone for Paint the Town. Friday, April 1st, the arts has arranged for several guitar and bass jam sessions throughout the day. Starting Saturday, April 2nd at 1:00 PM, the arts has arranged for the Marble Falls High School Jazz Band to play until 3:00 PM. Then, drum roll, on Saturday, April 2nd starting at 5:00 PM and throughout the evening until 9:00 PM, “The Lobby Boys” will be featured. Heard of The Ventures?? “Hawaii Five-O”, “Walk Don’t Run”, “Telstar”, “The Lonely Bull”? 100 million records sold, introduced into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, “The Band that Launched a Thousand Bands”. Before they leave on a three month world tour, including Japan, Bob Spalding, The Ventures’, lead guitarist, is bringing his own band, The Lobby Boys, to play for “Paint the Town”. Our own Lee Keller, Rhett Ruiz and Bill Rives have spent some time recently jamming with Bob, so we’ll have some “surprise” band members for us all to cheer on! What a fun way to drink some wine, preview the Arts Gallery and participate in the arts Live Auction that starts at 6:00 PM. For Sponsors and Donors, there will be a sectioned area featuring five local restaurants and caterers participating in their own creative food challenge displays
Listen to great music, watch students and professional artists paint, browse the expansive Gallery, play in the interactive arts stations, eat and drink wine. Open to the public and free of charge. Check out the arts website for a detailed daily schedule. www.hlcarts.org
