You can have so much fun visiting Canyon Lake's Jellystone Park that you might have to take a vacation in order to recover from this vacation.

Think that's an exaggeration? Well, just consider a sample day's activities: Saying the pledges with none other than Yogi Bear himself, going on a Hey Hey Ride. Creating arts and crafts like ceramics or coloring T-shirts, going on a savenger hunt, fusing beads, laser tag, candy bar bingo, taking in a movie, playing blindfolded water balloon toss, and going for a glowstick Hey Hey Ride after dark.

Or maybe it's karaoke time or time to launch a rocket or toss coconuts on the volleyball court or making your own tye-dye shirt.

Have some energy left? Enter the cannonball contest at the pool or join the peg leg race or go on a Wet Hey Hey Ride where you can drench all your companions with water guns.

And if it's Sunday, you can start off your day with the popular pancake breakfast.

Jellystone's 28 acres literally has something for everyone. You can stay in your own RV or rent a cabin or lodge room or pitch your own tent. They all have outdoor grills and pic-a-nic tables are everywhere.

Jellystone has two pools, indoor and out. Over there are volleyball and basketball courts. Over here is a massive, outdoor bounce pillow. Back there is a snack bar and a playground and gameroom. Frisbee golf is over yonder and tucked in a copse of cedar is the laser tag arena.

"Parents know their kids will be entertained all day long and they know they're safe," says Joanne Hall, the park's assistant manager.

"That gives parents a chance to relax," point out General Manager Jody Seagers.

The Hill Country Hall has a pool table, a stage, and air conditioning. It hosts craft classes, dances, and films, among other activities. Just outside is a sluice where you can mine for your own sparkling stones. You'll even find a Laundromat and a large gift shop.

"We cater to families with children," says Jody. "We have so much to do here, they never have to leave."

Jellystone's location north of New Braunfels is another reason for the park's popularity.

"We're right in the center of everything. Canyon lake is just two miles away. The Guadalupe River is a half-mile. You have all the attractions of San Antonio nearby in one direction and all the attractions of Hill Country towns like Austin and Fredericksburg and Wimberley nearby in the other direction," Jody says.

The Guadalupe River is the most popular in Texas and its famed Horseshoe Bend is just a half-mile down the road. If Jellystone guests are interested in floating or paddling the Guad, a local outfitter will pick them up, provide tube or kayak rentals, provide shuttle service, then bring them back to Jellystone.

As all of that weren't enough, Jellystone is adding its own water park that is scheduled to be open by summer. And it's theme will relate to this area of Texas: dinosaurs.

Yes, dinosaurs roamed these hills millennia ago and you can see their tracks in Wimberley or at the Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country just on the other side of the lake from Jellystone.

"I wanted to do something different with our water park," Jody says. "And I thought about the dinosaur museum. It won't look cartoonish and it won't be scary. The plan is to use it as a teaching tool."

And just who is this Yogi Bear?

Yogi was a popular television cartoon in the early 1960s that was reborn in 2010 with an animated feature film. He and his buddy Boo Boo lived at Jellystone Park, an homage to Yellowstone National Park where bears are a top attraction.

You can visit 83 Jellystone locations across the U.S. and Canada.

"We show the cartoons and show the film," Jody explains. "Parents know about Yogi and Jellystone and they want their kids to know."

Once people visit Jellystone, they always want to come back, Jody points out. The park is so popular, in fact, that you should make reservations well ahead of time.

"We have all sorts of family activities that will pull parents and their kids together. It's good to see parents act like kids again," Jody says. "Building family memories is what we're all about."

So what are you waiting for? Yogi Bear can't wait to meet you.
